ARCATA MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE

On Friday January 15th 2010, at approximately 10:17 p.m., officers from the Arcata Police Department responded to the 1100 Blk of J St for the report of gun shots heard in the area and a female subject screaming for help. Upon arrival officers located a female victim that had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

A search of the area was conducted and the suspect, 34 year old Kenneth Fiaui of Arcata, was located one block from the shooting. Fiaui was uncooperative with officers and after a brief struggle, was taken into custody. A further search of the area located the firearm believed to be used in the crime.

The 23 year old female victim was transported to Mad River Community Hospital and later transported to UC Davis Medical Center where she is reported to be in serious but stable condition. Fiaui was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on charges of attempted homicide.

This case is still under investigation. It is believed that the suspect and victim are in a relationship and live together in a nearby residence. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

  1. Did Courtney Weaver ever work for the Eureka Reporter?
It seems to me that she did, or maybe it was someone with a like-sounding name.

    Just curious.

  4. I screwed up on the font for the fund raiser at the top of the post. It should have been much bigger and in different color. Print people were probably going...wtf? I hope people came out in the driving storm to Jambalaya anyway. Get well Courtney.

  5. The Arcata Eye says 28-hundred dollars was raised at the event. That's just a drop in the bucket for medical bills but it helps. Get well Courtney!
