John's And Prostitutes Names And Pictures To Be Released By Eureka Police Department

Subject: 3rd Street Prostitution Sting Nets 4 Arrests
On the afternoon of 5/18/11, detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) conducted a prostitution sting operation in Eureka’s Old Town area. This was in response to the ongoing problem of prostitutes blatantly working along 3rd Street west of the Humboldt County Library and other nearby locations.

During the approximately two hour operation, POP detectives made 4 arrests for 653.22 PC – Loitering with intent to commit prostitution. Those arrested included 3 female prostitutes and a male “john” who stopped and picked up one of the women. One of the prostitutes was arrested after she approached undercover detectives and propositioned them for sex for money.

All four suspects were arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where they were booked and later released for 653.22 PC. Additionally, one of the prostitutes was booked on an outstanding felony warrant alleging she maintained a place for purposes of drug use/sales.

In the future, POP anticipates also releasing the names and pictures of any “john’s” (and prostitutes) arrested for picking up or attempting to pick up prostitutes in this area. Names and photos will not be included with this release.

  1. Publishing the photos of prostitutes sounds like a handy way to help johns, especially first-time johns, in identifying prostitutes. Think about it. EPD will save johns the embarrassment of approaching random women who are not doing business.

  2. Since I moved to Humboldt in 1979, prositutes have lingered on, or near, 3rd Street near the Library.

Like clockwork every year they have a sting or two.

I wonder why, after all these years, the prostitutes still hang out there?

I also wonder why the police bother to roust them? Slow revenue making days for the courts or what?

  3. If you see a good looking street walker in Eureka it isn't your lucky day, there is a sting going on.
