Driving by the airport in McKinleyville today I saw a Boeing CH-series Chinook helicopter doing maneuvers over the tarmac. Sometimes they just hovered in place and then slowly forward and backwards. They never went above about 50 or 60 feet while I was watching them. I have always been fascinated by these helicopters because of the double rotor design.

It did need some work though. While kayaking under the pier I saw several wooden pilings that you could stick your paddle through. It is not a permanent structure but it looks like it will be a great place for a big concert. About 3-thousand people are expected for Michael Franti on Friday night.
