US troops executing prisoners in Afghanistan, journalist says

Seymour Hersh in video uploaded to Michael Moore's You Tube account from May 11th, 2010.

"The journalist who helped break the story that detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq were being tortured by their US jailers told an audience at a journalism conference last month that American soldiers are now executing prisoners in Afghanistan."

  1. "What it means is, and I've been told this anecdotally by five or six different people, battlefield executions are taking place," he continued. "Well, if they can't prove they're Taliban, bam. If we don't do it ourselves, we turn them over to the nearby Afghan troops and by the time we walk three feet the bullets are flying. And that's going on now."

Are the same "five or six people" talking about a single incident that occurred, numerous incidents that occurred, a political policy, general order, specific order, or what? I don't doubt that it has happened or that it will happen again, however, we must look at the facts of each event and understand the conditions and orders that existed upon the battlefield. I am concerned that this reporting of executions is as flimsy as saying panties on a detainee's head is torture. I'm not trying to justify or defend anything, I'm sure bad things happened; I just want more facts. Sadly, it will likely be decades before we get most of the facts and those will be tainted by time.
