A United Nations Plot To Destroy The Country: Bike Sharing.

Look out Arcata.  A Tea Party candidate  Republican in Colorado is running for Governor and  thinks that bike sharing programs are a U.N. plot to destroy the U.S.

  1. The arcata bike library is a model for the world to follow. Bikes are a dime a dozen...mountains of them at dumps all over the state every week, many ready to ride, many only needing a few bucks and some chain lube. These mek-bikes simply cost too much to rent. After two months of limited use, you could own your own quality bike outright instead.

I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, but public transportation in the US costs too much...these "public" bikes are no exception. They're for zippy green hipsters with money.

  2. Anonymous, say you are only going to be in Arcata for a week. You fly in or come by thumb in the air. This would be perfect for those people.
What if you don't like bikes but would like to use one while your car is getting fixed?

You are right about the price. At 65 dollars a year, in a few years you could have bought one.

I guess if you want to ride a P.O.S. you could do that cheaper and you could be the proud owner and tire patcher etc.

  3. Ya, I didn't consider the tourist/emergency factor at all.
