Arizona Congresswoman Shot In Head Today Was On Sarah Palin's Hit List

By Stephen C. Webster for Raw Story

Telling voters to 'reload' and 'aim for' Democrats was perfectly fine, Sen. McCain argued in March

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), who was shot Saturday during a public event in Tucson, was among 20 other members of Congress who were on a so-called hit list published by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Palin, who has never publicly advocated violence against fellow US politicians, has often employed rhetorical attacks that leverage imagery and terminology familiar to gun owners and evocative of firearms. She said in March that her supporters should "reload" and "aim for" Democrats, ostensibly with their votes.
A map of the US, published on Palin's Facebook page, featured targeting crosshairs over individual congressional districts Palin had targeted for intense campaign efforts. While her note called for "pink slips," she added that supporters should fire a "salvo" at those lawmakers. Rep. Giffords was on the list.

Hours after Giffords was shot, that list was still available on Palin's Facebook page. (Screenshot.)

    On the tragedy in Arizona
By Sarah Palin · about an hour ago
My sincere condolences are offered to the family of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and the other victims of today's tragic shooting in Arizona.

On behalf of Todd and my family, we all pray for the victims and their families, and for peace and justice.

    - Sarah Palin

  2. Shame on you, Tom.

This guy is a loon. JARED LAUGHNER... He's got a YouTube channel and one of his favorite videos is flag burning. - is how it looks right now.

  3. Rose, the guy that ran against Giffords is also a loon. I'm trying to get a graphic up for one of his campaign events last summer.

  4. Not sure what's going on with Eric at SoHum Parlance.

I brought up this same subject you have here and he spammed it! what's with that?
I didn't even express an opinion. I just gave a link with the info on Palin as it was germane to the topic. I also expressed hope it wasn't politically motivated.

Really weird. He's never edited anything I said before.

  5. It might not have been him. I have had computer trouble since I posted this.

  6. Interesting....

I hope it wasn't intentional on Eric's part. It wouldn't reflect well on him.

  7. I am not anti gun.
I just think that using targets and gun metaphors to intimidate your opponents or to get people to be enraged is a bad idea.

Identifying your opponents through cross hairs may seem like good fun in some red neck parts of our country but there are many unstable people that will take things literally. The venom and vile displayed in the last election has served to dived this country in ways that are counter productive. When you entice the kooks, they sometimes follow through for you.

Some may recall the rhetoric in Dallas Texas just before JFK was shot. Some things never change.

A young woman in Arizona, Catie Parker, claimed on her Twitter feed that she went to high school and college with the gunman, and was in a band with him. She described his politics in the past as "left wing, quite liberal, & oddly obsessed with the 2012 prophecy." She also described him as having a lot of friends "until he got alcohol poisoning in '06" and dropped out of school. "Mainly loner very philosophical."

  9. If he is left wing you can be QUITE certain that the media will drop this like a HOT potato - just as they have every single incident recently that didn't pan out to fit the evil right winger meme - ooooooooh, the Tea Party, it must be the Tea Party, it must be Palin, it must be Sean Hannity, it must be... oh. It's. Not. Uh. Never mind. Move along.

He's a schizophrenic weirdo on the lines of Hinckley.

Targeting certain seats in an ELECTION is NOT anywhere close to ordering an assassination - but if you want to go down that slippery slope, well, this could get interesting.

  10. And - I might add that watching his YouTube about currency, does that make you think of any of our local loons? Speaking of loony politicians... did he really move to Texas?

  11. Rose and Tom - why the politics in such a dreadful moment

    Give it a rest

  12. Oh dear, oh dear - KOS targeted her too... Put a BULLS EYE on her... no less!

    2010 will be primary season
"...we've got a problem in our caucus -- while we have been busy stocking up on more Democrats, fact is the good ones are being swamped by the bad ones.... Not all of these people will get or even deserve primaries, but this vote certainly puts a bulls eye on their district...."

  13. KOS doesn't use cross hairs in a scope to get their point across. In my business we are always defining the target audience. We don't use cross hairs on our material though. We use pie charts and coverage areas.

Don't stick up for the hate mongers Rose. Listen to what the Sheriff of Pima County had to say about vitriol and rhetoric coming from radio and a few TV talk personalities. He has some strong words about this effects his community. Something about how Arizona has become the racist bastion of the US.

  14. I find nothing wrong with using the reticle (you know, the cross-hairs) as a symbol for focus.

You cannot look at the cause and effect associated with this story by saying certain Republican campaigns (including Tea Party) caused a crazy man to kill people.
