Mike Malloy was bringing some of this up tonight on his radio show. Then I saw this at Heraldo.

Update: To be fair and accurate, Fox News CEO, Roger Ailes told his network to " Tone it down".

Much of what people are complaining about are the entertainment shows, like Huckabee, Beck, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, etc. as oppose to the news itself.
ReplyDeleteThe public (and the media) has a difficult time delineating and deciphering the difference between a news story and an entertainer. Local weather forecasts are plagued by young women with lots of cleavage. Is the delivery of the weather forecast still news, entertainment, or maybe shades of both?
Its the same with NPR. Their are plenty of talk shows talking about news events. Are the talk shows news? Are they Entertainment?
Greg, the problem is that in most media markets, if you want to listen to news, you have to put up with Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage and others on the right. In markets without progressive talk, and that is most of them, you have NPR or Rush. They take up most of the air time and you get a sliver of news between the one sided hosts and their hyperbole. You live in LA where there are 24 hour news stations. That is not the situation in most of the rest of the country.
ReplyDeleteFox news is on all cable networks in the US. MSNBC is an upgrade on most meaning you have to pay more to get it where it is available.
I think the key here is TSL or Time Spent Listening. When one spends 43 minutes of the hour being brainwashed by some talking head just to hear 3 minutes of actual news, it's no wonder people believe stupid stuff like Obama raised their taxes or the democrats want to establish death panels. Jan Brewer has established the death panels and she is a republican. Republicans took guns away from black people in New Orleans after Katrina, not Obama. I blame time spent listening to lies and stupid crap for much of the ignorance in this country.
