Highway Worker Still In Critical Condition After Broadway Collision

Updated Information:

On August 30th 20110 at about 1am EPD Officers were dispatched to Broadway near Henderson streets on the report of a vehicle vs pedestrian collision. EPD Traffic Officers, a Detective and Evidence technicians were called out to assist in the investigation.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Kyle Anderson, 20 years old, of Bella Vista, CA, was working with a company that was updating signal light wiring along Broadway. Anderson was apparently seated partially in a hole dug along the west curb of Broadway that gave access to wiring. Extra lighting was being used to illuminate the worksite.

Selena Ranney, 28 years old of Eureka, was driving a 1997 Acura southbound on Broadway approaching Henderson street. For an unknown reason Ranney turned her vehicle to the right and collided with Anderson and the west curb of Broadway.

Anderson received major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Ranney was interviewed at the Eureka Police Department. The vehicle she was driving was impounded as evidence and is pending an inspection.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Senior Traffic Officer Gary Whitmer at 707 441-4232
