Wendy’s Closure Ads To List Of Chains That Have Left Eureka

The only Humboldt County Wendy’s fast food restaurant closed its doors for good last night.  The Wendy’s on
6th Street
in Eureka provided 32 local jobs according to KIEM news channel 3. Employees reportedly were told of the closing just before it actually happened.  The loss of jobs is what hurts.  There is still a great place to get hamburgers less than a block from there called Mike’s Garlic Fries.  It is locally owned but doesn’t provide local jobs except for the family that runs it.

Last year both KFC restaurants closed in Eureka.  One has become a Church’s Fried Chicken and the other is set to open as an independent Chinese food restaurant.  Also closed last year was the only local Jack In The Box franchise.  While the city of Arcata to the north has strict rules about where a fast food or chain restaurant may locate in that town, and places restrictions on drive thru businesses, Eureka which embraces the concept, can’t seem to keep them around.

Still, it would be better for our local economy if the Wendy’s reopened as Tony’s # 3 or another Starz Hamburgers both local businesses.  Across the street from the now defunct Wendy’s is another great local restaurant,  Porter St. BBQ where one can get a killer Tri Tip sandwich or chicken cooked over a hot oak fire.

I say if the chains don’t want to come here and help us get fat, let the locals expand.  If there is a real need for more restaurants, the locals will fill that need.

    1. But the spicy chicken sandwich... Eureka is to have no good spicy chicken that isn't slimy with sauce...
I demand you and you're hatred of square patties to create a spicy chicken sandwich store.

  2. The Jack in the Box and Kentucky Fried Chicken outlets in Crescent City have also closed.

  3. The McKinleyville shopping center has lost quite a few tenants. The only chain store was Blockbuster.

I'm surprised restaurants survive because it's so darn expensive to eat out, even fast food costing $8 or $9 for an adult meal deal.

  6. Why did they close?

  7. Apparently, 6 months ago they were told 'fix all these problems or you'll lose your certification' by the Wendy's Bigwigs. In typical Humboldt fashion, they did NOTHING. The manager knew the close was imminent, but told none of his employees what was going on 'for fear of theft'; they were simply instantly unemployed while his fat ass was prepared for it.

  8. Jack in the box did not go out of business they were shut down by the health dept after habitually failing inspections. I will miss wendy's drive thru and jr bacon cheese burgers. It was the only fast food joint in town I would go to sometimes.

  9. Its the Eureka People. They are lazy, unreliable, filthy, and unethical people. They have no work ethic at all and no sense of responsibility. Crescent City Jack closed because of low sales in a small town. Jack in Eureka is a money maker but the Eureka People are dirt bags.

    1. ok wait...... your really trying to tell the world that Eureka is horrible and Crescent City is just "a small town"? lolololol your freakin high! Eureka IS gross and nasty! but dude Crescent City is so freakin beyond! the only people who live THERE are either the trashy ass junkie trainwreck families of the horrible violent human waste housed at Pelican Bay Super Max Prison or the douchebag guards. obviously your one or the other lol

  10. The place down the street is called Mike's Drive-Up. Yeah, they serve garlic fries, but that's not part of the name. Whoever owns Mikes now has completely run it into the ground—the food is horrible! It used to be one of the best places in town to get a burger, shake and fries. Now, even their garlic fries suck! And don't get me started on their chili dogs! Horrible chili and extremely cheap chicken hot dog! So sad what they've done to that place.

Also, Jack in the Box is just days away from reopening, after its renovation. Not that I'll be eating there, because their "food" is completely flavourless and gross.

Also, it's "adds to list." Not "ads." It's called spellcheck; look into it.
