Brace For Lots Of Wind

Humboldt County, a mother of a wind storm is about to unleash it's fury on us. In my neck of the redwoods near Trinidad Ca., I will be expecting sustained winds of between 20 and 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. According to one report, gusts as high as 70 on the ridge above me. Things should start around midnight tonight and thunderstorms including possible small hail are possible in the morning.

I expect to wake up without electricity so I am taking the precautions needed like getting the chain saw out, flashlights in order, filling water containers (for flushing toilets) and topping off the britta filter pitchers. We're on a well so, no power, no water. There is a over 1,000 gallons in a tank but we would have to get it out with a bucket if the power is off.  I put away the trash cans and some lose items that could blow into my car. I also expect some of the radio stations I work for to go off but I hope they don't. I really need a day off.

Here is the skinny from the National Weather Service
