Grant Money Announced For Rape Kit DNA Test Backlog

SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra on Tuesday announced a new grant program that provides funds for cities and counties to help conduct audits of their untested sexual assault evidence kits. The Untested Sexual Assault Evidence Grants are intended to assist agencies to achieve the goal of determining the number of untested sexual assault evidence kits throughout California. A total of $1 million is available to facilitate the grant program.

In September, Governor Jerry Brown signed AB 3118 by Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco), which requires every law enforcement agency, medical facility, crime laboratory, and other specified facilities, to conduct an audit of all untested sexual assault evidence kits in their possession and report to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) no later than July 1, 2019. Earlier this year, DOJ was allocated $1 million through the state budget for grants available to cities and counties to count the number of untested sexual assault evidence kits in their possession.

Local government agencies must submit applications to the DOJ by December 14, 2018.

SpaceX Rocket seen along California coast tonight.

Elon Musk's SpaceX company has successfully launched a rocket from and landed it in California.

According to The La Times
The landing came after the Hawthorne company launched the SAOCOM 1A Earth observation satellite for Argentina’s national commission on space activities at 7:21 p.m. Pacific time. The launch was delayed one day for “pre-flight vehicle checkouts,” SpaceX tweeted last week.

SpaceX has returned 30 total boosters back to land or to a floating sea platform.

A friend of mine at Clam Beach, Humboldt County California saw this along the coast heading south toward Vandenberg

The Local Twist To The Local Twist On The Thai Cave Rescue

There was a local twist to the "local twist" reported about the Thai Cave Rescue that took place recently which was mostly overlooked.

News that Elon Musk of Space X and Tesla fame had flown up to Humboldt to obtain rescue vehicles still being invented and tested, was followed with a couple of tweets from the eclectic inventor.

Screenshot taken from
Lost Coast Outpost

On July 3rd. I got an urgent message from a friend of mine and Humboldt County resident, Robert B. Stretton.

Robert was frustrated because it was the night before the Independence Day holiday and Robert couldn't get in contact with anyone and wanted me to help get the word out. I having been off work for over a year now due to an accident am not current with all of my old contacts. So with that and the holiday and it being late at night, I suggested he call CNN and then gave him some information to contact the company helping the rescue.

Robert said he called Wings Inflatables the morning of the 5th. when he was finally able to get hold of someone and talked at length on the phone about what needed to be built.

Here is what happened in Robert's own words from his web site.

I don't know who I talked to but I discussed about making the tunnel and you are the only guys that can make this NOW, and the guy I talked to said we could not make anything that big, and then I said, "How about an inflatables submarine then, a pod you could put them in with ballast water weight for neutral buoyancy to float them out in a chamber so they are not more traumatized than they already are?", and he said, "Yeah, we might be able to build something like that.", and then I said, "The clock is ticking so let me know if you guys can build this, and then get back to me if you can do it.", and I never heard another word from them...
Then Tom Sebourn told me on his Facebook page that they used my idea, after, I had called "Wing inflatables" and also sending a message to Elon Musk on his Facebook page later that day on the 6th about my idea and that we need to make this happen RIGHT NOW so we can save those boys, and then I discovered "Wing inflatables" stole my idea and never mentioned my name, which was given to them along with my cell number to call me back if they could do it or not, and I never got a call at all, but I did get the news they stole my idea and just set the clock back to 5:00 AM to superseded what I told them at 8:13 AM for a 5 minute conversation in order to take credit for it, but, I published my idea on my website for the pubic view in hopes of assistance from anybody that would help and do the right thing for these boys, and the instant I hung up on the phone with "Wing inflatables", I immediately updated my webpage to include what I had just told them about making the submarine instead of the tunnel.
This page is not linked to my main website as to not disturb the timestamp at the bottom of my main website as the timestamp is still live from my last update of the 4th of July ( look at the sourcecode of my main page, and you will see that my computer automatically puts the timestamp it was saved, at the bottom of the page, and then was immedately uploaded to the server as the document from my hosting company proves. ) which proves I had the page up on the 4th of July, 2 days before "Wing inflatables" and Elon Musk Engineers who were also notified, about this idea as they were both told to go to my website, www.RBSe.us/...[item #1]...for an explanation on what to do, back on the 3rd of July when it was first published as it says on the timestamp of creation on the document at the top!

So just for the record, this guy was thinking about how to get those boys out of those caves and had some of the same ideas that Elon Musk had. He even posted his idea on his web site on July 3rd. about an inflatable tunnel and small inflatable submarines.

Here is a capture of the idea when he proposed it on his website.

Robert B. Stretton told me not to bother trying to set the record straight. He said nobody cares. I figure that someone cares and perhaps many would like to know that some of the best ideas might just be brewing right here behind the redwood curtain AKA Humboldt County.

Want to explore or know more? Here is Robert's website: http://rbse.us/

There is more contact info there if you care.

Pizza Comes To Trinidad!

Pizza Comes to Trinidad California

For a year or so there was a place that had great pizza but they also did catering and were only open when they wanted to be. Needless to say they left the pizza business in Trinidad for what I hope was success in their true love catering.

The place that had pizza for a bit underwent some major changes as new owners came in and reopened as The Lighthouse Grill. Serving beer and wine and in house made breads and buns on their interesting menu with a patio, and inside seating. Serving lunch and dinners with specials every night. They make their own ice cream too. It's a great place but they are busy doing what they do well.

I heard that they were going to open a new place across the parking lot that would be making small pizzas and serving beer and wine. That made me happy because these people know how to cook and
photo from Yelp.com
every now and then a pizza just sounds like the thing and nothing else will do. Looks like the place is a few weeks out from opening.

Enter Cher-ae Heights Casino and their Chef Wily at The Firewater Lounge. They are now serving up two different pizzas a night, every night they say.

Here's to going from no pizza at all except for what you could buy frozen at Murphy's Market, to having two pizza places both seemingly made right there.

Let the pizzas begin.

FBI Director Andrew McCabe's Statement Regarding His Removal

The following is the statement released by FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as it appears here at The Daily Kos

I have been an FBI Special Agent for over 21 years. I spent half of that time investigating Russian Organized Crime as a street agent and Supervisor in New York City. I have spent the second half of my career focusing on national security issues and protecting this country from terrorism. I served in some of the most challenging, demanding investigative and leadership roles in the FBI. And I was privileged to serve as Deputy Director during a particularly tough time.

For the last year and a half, my family and I have been the targets of an unrelenting assault on our reputation and my service to this country. Articles too numerous to count have leveled every sort of false, defamatory and degrading allegation against us. The president’s tweets have amplified and exacerbated it all. He called for my firing. He called for me to be stripped of my pension after more than 20 years of service. And all along we have said nothing, never wanting to distract from the mission of the FBI by addressing the lies told and repeated about it.

No more.

The investigation by the Justice Department’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) has to be understood in the context of the attacks on my credibility. The investigation flows from my attempt to explain the FBI’s involvement and my supervision of investigations involving Hillary Clinton. I was being portrayed in the media over and over as a political partisan, accused of closing down investigations under political pressure. The FBI was portrayed as caving under that pressure, and making decisions for political rather than law enforcement purposes. Nothing was further from the truth. In fact, this entire investigation stems from my efforts, fully authorized under FBI rules, to set the record straight on behalf of the Bureau and to make it clear that we were continuing an investigation that people in DOJ opposed.

The OIG investigation has focused on information I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor. As Deputy Director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the Director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter. It was the same type of exchange with the media that the Deputy Director oversees several times per week. In fact it was the same type of work that I continued to do under Director Wray, at his request. The investigation subsequently focused on who I talked to, when I talked to them, and so forth. During these inquiries, I answered questions truthfully and as accurately as I could amidst the chaos that surrounded me. And when I thought my answers were misunderstood, I contacted investigators to correct them.

But looking at that in isolation completely misses the big picture. The big picture is a tale of what can happen when law enforcement is politicized, public servants are attacked, and people who are supposed to cherish and protect our institutions become instruments for damaging those institutions and people.

Here is the reality: I am being singled out and treated this way because of the role I played, the actions I took, and the events I witnessed in the aftermath of the firing of James Comey. The release of this report was accelerated only after my testimony to the House Intelligence Committee revealed that I would corroborate former Director Comey’s accounts of his discussions with the President. The OIG’s focus on me and this report became a part of an unprecedented effort by the Administration, driven by the President himself, to remove me from my position, destroy my reputation, and possibly strip me of a pension that I worked 21 years to earn. The accelerated release of the report, and the punitive actions taken in response, make sense only when viewed through this lens. Thursday’s comments from the White House are just the latest example of this.

This attack on my credibility is one part of a larger effort not just to slander me personally, but to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally. It is part of this Administration’s ongoing war on the FBI and the efforts of the Special Counsel investigation, which continue to this day. Their persistence in this campaign only highlights the importance of the Special Counsel’s work.

I have always prided myself on serving my country with distinction and integrity, and I have always encouraged those around me to do the same. Just ask them. To have my career end in this way, and to be accused of lacking candor when at worst I was distracted in the midst of chaotic events, is incredibly disappointing and unfair. But it will not erase the important work I was prevailed to be a part of, the results of which will in the end be revealed for the country to see.

I have unfailing faith in the men and women of the FBI and I am confident that their efforts to seek justice will not be deterred.

Creating clouds to stop global warming could wreak havoc - USA Today story

Excerpt from USA Today story by Doyle Rice:

The idea behind the process, known as geoengineering, is to keep global warming under control — with the ideal solution still being a reduction in the emissions of greenhouse gases.

However, suddenly stopping that spraying would have a "devastating" global impact on animals and plants, potentially even leading to extinction, according to the first study on the potential biological impacts of climate intervention.

"Rapid warming after stopping geoengineering would be a huge threat to the natural environment and biodiversity," said study co-author Alan Robock of Rutgers University. "If geoengineering ever stopped abruptly, it would be devastating, so you would have to be sure that it could be stopped gradually, and it is easy to think of scenarios that would prevent that."

Rapid warming forced animals to move. But even if they could move fast enough, they might not be able find places with enough food to survive, the study said.

"Plants, of course, Read More at USA Today
